The Importance of Vitamin C in your Skincare Routine

We are all acquainted with the importance of Vitamin C for our immune system and overall wellness. However, a rather lesser-known fact is that Vitamin C works wonders for the skin as well. Infact, it’s one of the most researched skincare ingredients. 

Vitamin C, also known as ascorbic acid or L-ascorbic acid, is a vitamin that the body cannot create on its own. The only way to get it is to take supplements or eat citrus fruits like oranges, which are known for being high in vitamin C. The antioxidant capabilities aid in the natural regeneration of your skin, allowing your body to restore damaged skin cells. 

Collagen and elastin are natural protein fibers that make skin lush and firm. This protein is found naturally in your skin and aids in the prevention of sagging skin. However, like everything else, once you grow older, your body's collagen production slows down. Applying skincare products that are rich in vitamin C encourages the formation of new collagen. It doesn’t just stop there; it even helps to prevent additional damage to the existing collagen.

Vitamin C is anti-inflammatory in nature which means it can help to reduce inflammation and redness on the skin. Anti-inflammatories are required for skin care. And, like vitamin C, when applied topically, they can improve the appearance of the skin by reducing redness.
